Developer, Intern
London, United Kingdom · Permanent · £11.50 per hours, equivalent to £92 per day

We are seeking a talented Developer Intern with AWS and Ruby on Rails experience to support our product development team.

At Firewood, we work with prestigious FTSE100 firms across sectors such as Financial Services, Energy, and Infrastructure. Additionally, we collaborate closely with central and local government organizations. Our team is renowned for developing industry best practices, and we are passionate about enabling our clients to enhance their capabilities.

You will play an integral role in the development and continuous improvement of our proprietary FAST application, which is already being used by our clients. We have a long backlog of features that need implementing along with multiple plans for new products.

Key Responsibilities

  • ​Support the development and enhancement of our proprietary FAST application

  • Write code that meets functional requirements and is testable and maintainable 

  • Debug existing code to fix errors and improve performance

  • Test our application for bugs or other issues that may affect functionality or the user experience

  • Communicate with other team members about project status and issues that arise

  • Collaborate with the product development team to drive innovation and improvement

  • Ability to use Ruby on Rails, Bootstrap, and JavaScript to deliver high-quality solutions

  • Leverage AWS technologies, including AWS Elastic Beanstalk, AWS Cloud9 for IDE, and Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience with OOP/web-development is required

  • Experience with AWS Stack, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript and React is desirable

  • Confident, humble, and eager to learn from others

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Strong collaborative mindset and adaptability to achieve desired outcomes

  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines effectively

  • Working towards an undergraduate degree in computer science or equivalent professional qualification(s)

This role offers a predominantly remote working arrangement, with the flexibility for you to visit our Cannon Street Offices 1-2 days per week, if desired, in addition to the mandatory once or twice per month. Our expectation is that you are able to commit to working between 8 and 24 hours per week for a minimum period of 3 months. These arrangements can be negotiated during interviews.
